Digital design and web development at Solent
The design of digital user interfaces is integral to all forms of digital communication and entertainment, through mobile apps, streaming services, websites and computer programs.
If you are passionate about design, then there is a huge job market in the digital world in significant need of skilled designers for digital products – from front-end designers to user experience (UX) and back-end developers.
At Solent you can mix technical skills with design to study UX and usability, and be introduced to professional design and development workflows and user research, gathering requirements, sketching ideas, creating concepts, building prototypes, undertaking user experience (UX) evaluation, and finally coding up digital products and applications.
You can focus on your strengths through emphasis on design or technical skills to ensure you are ready for your professional career and have a good understanding of what is required to work alongside other specialists.
You’ll be supported by an academic team with technical programming and project management backgrounds, with wide-ranging experience of web design and development, software development, digital marketing and business computing.
To aid learning and help gain practical skills, students have full access to the University’s extensive laboratory facilities.
Specialist computer labs contain industry-standard software such as the Adobe Creative suite, networking and computing systems, and a usability lab with TechSmith’s Morae usability software and a Tobii eye-tracker. Students will also have access to our new devices lab, a special test area consisting of a range of the latest mobile devices mounted on flexible tethers, allowing you to test websites and apps on real equipment.
