With an upturn in the growing importance of the use of exercise and nutrition as the foundations for wellbeing, there are many rewarding careers in public health and the private sector.Â
Solent has a range of courses on offer to further our understanding of human biology and exercise science. Students can study the connection between health and fitness, physiology, exercise science, nutrition and sport therapy to gain the knowledge needed to help people overcome their health challenges or support athletes in a high-performance environment.
To help prepare you for a career in industry, an applied and hands-on approach is encouraged. Through professional placements and applied practice, you will gain first-hand experience of working with teams, athletes in a high-performance environment and the general public. Students studying health and nutrition will be offered the opportunity of two inspiring pathways, Fitness and Personal Training or Health and Exercise Science.
As a biomedical student at Solent, you’ll work in specialist teaching laboratories to build a detailed understanding of the causes of human disease and how these diseases produce symptoms.
With accreditations from the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES), the Society of Sport Therapists, the British Psychological Society, the Association for Nutrition, the Chartered Institute for Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) and the Health and Care Profession Council (HCPC), you can be assured of a high-quality education to gain the skills relevant for industry.

You'll have access to specialist facilities relevant to your field ensuring that upon graduation you are skilled and confident for a professional career in industry.
Facilities include specialist BASES-accredited laboratories (physiology, biomechanics and psychology), and to the state-of-the-art sports complex, with fitness studios, sports halls and specialist gyms. The biomedical laboratories are comprehensively equipped with laminar flow hood and incubators for microbiological work, spectrophotometers for analytical biochemistry, PCR and gel electrophoresis running/imaging systems for molecular biology, and a range of microscopes for cell biology and pathology.
