How I'm spending my Christmas break
I don’t know about you, but I love Christmas! Especially in Germany as it snows occasionally and the Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas market) is just awesome. Unlike school where you come home and see your family every day, your university may be in a different city or country, making visits less frequent. And for me, being home is very special whatever time of the year it is. And while I’d like to forget about university and assignments for the whole holiday, it wouldn’t be the smartest thing to do. Holidays are a great way to catch up on any work and finish assessments before the new semester starts so you can turn up to uni fresh and ready to roll.
So how can I be productive when being at home? Simple, I break down the day into working and relaxing. The first thing I’ll do in the morning is something active like a run or a workout, which is then followed by the tasks that I have set up the night before. These can be university based or any other things that need to be done. And once the afternoon comes around, I’ve finished all my tasks and am 100% ready to relax and help around the house. Now of course, there are days that I won’t do any work as I’ll be chopping massive amounts of firewood, fixing something around the house with my dad, meeting up with my two best mates, or just having a nice relaxing day at home with my family. By doing this, I’ll get back to university with no more assignments and had a great relaxing holiday in the process.
Another great thing about this is that I often find that I finish everything I planned to do over the break earlier than planned, leaving me a couple weeks of absolute freedom. Everybody is different and needs to find that balance to make sure everything gets done but also gives you plenty of time to do all of those things that make Christmas special for you.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
