12th August 2020

If you haven’t met the conditions of your offers, changed your mind since making your initial choice or decided late that you want to go to university - Solent University’s trained advisors will be on hand to offer advice, support and campus visits when A level and SQA results are unveiled on Thursday 13 August.

Going through Clearing can be daunting, particularly through these uncertain times. Solent is here to support you every step of the way, helping to make the process as straightforward as possible.

Staff will be on Twitter, Facebook, email, live web chat, Instagram, Whatsapp and at the end of a phone to advise and support on the various options available.

Debbie House. Head, UK Student Recruitment, Admissions and Widening Participation says, “You can take a lot of stress out of the day by checking what you need to do before Clearing officially opens, so that on results day you can concentrate on getting a place on a course at a University that you want to go to.”

“And don’t panic,” continues Debbie. “You have time. The most important thing is to find the course and university that is the right fit for you. Talk to the advisors, ask questions and check if you can speak to lecturers from the course that you are interested in. Everyone is there to help you make the right decision for you.”

Before making a final decision, you can get a taste of life at Solent at one of our tailored virtual Clearing events. Plan your accommodation, chat to our academic teams and find out more about studying in Southampton. These take place on Thursday 13 and 14 August, Wednesday 19 August, Wednesday 26 August and Wednesday 2 September.

Everything you need to know about the Clearing process and more information about our virtual Clearing events and booking forms can be found on our website.

The Clearing hotline is open from 7.30am to 7.30pm on Thursday 13 August, 7.30am-6.30pm on Friday 14 August; and 9am to 5pm on Saturday 15 August. It is closed on Sunday 16 August but will then reopen from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4.30pm on Fridays throughout the summer.

What will Solent look like in September?

Due to Covid-19, the start of the University journey will look different to everything previously imagined, but everyone here is working hard to make sure that life as a Solent student will be an amazing experience.

Our focus is on providing a safe and welcoming environment, alongside the high quality and flexible learning and accommodation options.

Plans are being put in place to ensure all students have access to the learning facilities and specialist equipment they need, alongside a range of dynamic virtual teaching tools which our academics will use to deliver engaging and challenging online learning and teaching. We are also Setting up a technology bursary fund for students who need support accessing IT equipment.

By adapting our campus we will provide a safe and welcoming environment where students can continue to enjoy the university experience they deserve. These include:

  • Using scheduling systems, block teaching, extended teaching days and weeks to limit the number of students on campus at any one time.
  • Adapting our workshops, laboratories and studios to ensure they can be used safely and providing PPE where necessary.
  • Creating ‘social zones’ around campus to provide a safe environment for group working and communication.

More information on what Solent will look like in September can be found on our website.
