Summer school shines

Year 12 students recently took part in a residential summer school at Southampton Solent University, with 96 per cent of those who attended rating the experience as ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’.

Business management and marketing

Experiencing a ‘week-in-the-life’ of a Solent student, the 75 attendees took part in a range of activities – from academic workshops to social activities – giving them a taster of what our current freshers are experiencing now.

The free four-day course featured four two-hour workshops. Students applied for the course they wanted, with a choice of business management and marketing, criminology, art and design, fashion, news journalism, and sport.

Social activities included ice breaking games, a cinema night, a Southampton discovery morning, pub quiz in the Students’ Union and a boat party on the Ocean Scene.

Some participants later emailed or took to Twitter to say how much fun they’d had.

One person said, “I thoroughly enjoyed getting to grips with what university life would be like. Thank you again for such a wonderful experience.”

Beth Chandler also enjoyed the experience, tweeting: “Probably had the best week of my life. If you’re not planning on going to uni then you’re definitely missing out.”
