Newly-qualified navigation officers

8th December 2016

Congratulations to the 46 newly-qualified navigation officers, from the January 2014 Foundation Degree and HND cohorts, on their passing out from Warsash Maritime Academy.

The recent passing out ceremony marked the completion of their three-year merchant navy training and education programme at Southampton Solent University’s Warsash Maritime Academy.

The evening was attended by the cadets' family and friends, as well as sponsors and representatives from shipping organisations, and staff from the University and the Academy.

Professor Jane Longmore, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Solent University, gave the closing address and congratulated the officers in a heart-felt speech, describing their passing out as a “major accomplishment, and a proud moment for families and friends”.

John Bazley, Operations Manager at Warsash, said: “It takes a lot of hard work and determination to get to where our students are today. We wish these newly-qualified navigation officers every success as they embark upon their professional careers in worldwide shipping”.

The maritime industry’s top employers and sponsors attended the ceremony and included: BP Shipping, Carisbrooke Shipping, Carnival UK, Chiltern Maritime, Clyde Marine Training, NYK LNG Shipmanagement (UK) Ltd, Princess Cruises, Ship Safe Training Group, Trinity House and Viking Recruitment.
