The Radio Sonar team are celebrating after being nominated for 10 awards in the I Love Student Radio Awards.

28th April 2020

Solent University’s student radio station, Radio Sonar, is in the running to win 10 awards at the I Love Student Radio Awards, which will take place in May.

The station, and its presenters, received more than 20 nominations in 10 categories for the prestigious awards held by the Student Radio Association (SRA), including Best Station Culture, Collaboration of the Year and Most Improved Student Radio Station.

Station Manager, Danny Humby - who is up for three individual awards, Most Outstanding Contribution to Student Radio, Most Committed Committee Member and Spirit of Student Radio - is ecstatic to see their work over the last year recognised.

“It’s been a big year for Radio Sonar and it’s amazing to have all our hard work recognised in this way,” he says.

“At the beginning of the year, one thing was clear to us - we wanted to improve our relationships with the Students' Union, the University and the SRA, and we believe we have smashed all three of those targets out of the park, and these nominations further highlight the progress we’ve made.”

The I Love Student Radio Awards - believed to be one of the biggest student media awards in Europe - is one of two national ceremonies held by the Student Radio Association. It is open to any student radio station that is part of the SRA. This year, the awards will be judged by industry professionals online, and the winners will be announced on 29 May.
