100 individual scholarships of £500 will be available to students joining Solent in September 2024 on a contextual offer, and the University is now encouraging prospective students to apply for theirs.

Recipients of the fund will be able to use the scholarship to cover £500 of their tuition fees in the first year of their studies, or to pay for food on Solent's Everyday App, which covers a range of catering outlets and shops on campus.

As a non-means-tested scholarship, the funding is available to any prospective student applying on a contextual basis, and is aimed at reducing any potential money concerns incoming students might have.

Solent's Head of Recruitment, Admissions and Widening Participation, Debbie House, says:

"Ensuring prospective students apply for university with confidence that the support they need is available and accessible is a top priority for Solent. We know that the cost of living has caused many young people, as well as mature learners, to become concerned about the associated costs of undertaking higher education, but we want them to know that there are a range of support packages available to them.

"Students thrive when they have the freedom to focus on their studies, and our scholarship for contextual admissions is just one of the ways we've committed to supporting those who need it the most to stay on the path to success."

71% of Solent's students are the first in their family to attend university; a sign of their commitment to ensuring higher education is accessible for all. Supporting young people and mature learners from a diversity of backgrounds and experiences, contextual admissions consider individual circumstances to make achievable offers to applicants who have experienced challenges. This is just one way in which Solent seeks to break down barriers to higher education, alongside a range of grants, bursaries and scholarships designed to give students financial confidence while they study.
