The Manager as a Coach
Here, Southampton Solent Business School talk about guest lectures and the Solent Human Resources network.
45 human resource management professionals enjoyed a thought provoking and insightful evening at Southampton Solent University Business School. This session was led by Michele Towell, senior lecturer in HRM, who shared her research which was conducted as partial fulfilment of her doctorate in coaching and mentoring.
The Solent Human Resource Network comprises of HRM leaders, professional students and Solent alumni that follow research methodology to understand more about the research journey. Michele’s research has resulted in the development of a new theoretical model for ‘The Manager as a Coach’ concept.
Networkers joined in this collaborative session and considered their own perceptions of coaching and mentoring in performance management conversations. They explored some of the benefits of this conceptual model and considered case study examples, outlining ‘The Manager as a Coach’ in action.
Southampton Solent Business School has a thriving HRM Network which hosts a number of events throughout the year. HRM professionals, general managers, professional students and indeed any leaders keen to gain insight and knowledge in people management issues are all welcome to join this network and to join us at these events.
