EduMove partners with Kick It Out

Centre member's organisation partners with Kick It Out

EduMove, the pioneering sport for development organisation founded by LMCFR member, Dr Oscar Mwaanga, has partnered with Kick It Out to develop an anti-racism and discrimination course for year five and six children in UK schools.

The course will include the development of a range of unique and innovative online and physical resources that utilise football’s captivation to engage pupils with learning about racism and discrimination. Pilot interventions have already been carried out within two Southampton primary schools and resources have been tested. The aim of the pilot was to measure the extent to which football drills and activities could be used as a captivation tool to engage pupils with key social skills. The results were overwhelmingly positive and found that the children involved were able to increase their knowledge of equality, racism, sexism and homophobia, religious discrimination, and ableism.

The educational programme will be accessible via an online platform for schools, football academies, football organisations, football foundations and charities from early 2016. The platform will provide access to a range of innovative lesson plans, downloadable courses and resources. More information about the course is available from Oscar Mwaanga.
