Solent one of just TWO universities invited to South Korea's National Sports Week

Southampton Solent University were one of only two UK universities invited by the British Council in Seoul to present during South Korea’s National Sports Week.

Senior Lecturer in Sport, Dominic Cunliffe, was given the responsibility of not only presenting a stimulating lecture on the determinants of physical activity and sport, but also giving a talk to Korean students who were interested in studying sport here at Solent.

Speaking about his visit, Dominic said:

“The two lectures I delivered with the British Council were very well received and the Korean students were enthusiastic about furthering and developing their knowledge with Solent University.

“Since our return we have received initial enquiries from a couple of potential students, so the trip has been very worthwhile. Furthermore, the British Council have suggested that we be invited back again in 2016, so maybe the seed has been sown for increasing our international student numbers and future developments”

Whilst he was in South Korea, Solent’s international office arranged for Dominic to hold initial discussions with two Korean universities, helping Solent along the way to fulfilling its aim of seeking sustainable international partners.

“This aspect of the trip was great. Both universities (which are very different from each other) are also keen to further discussions with Western universities and potentially forge official partnerships with Solent.

“One university in particular, HoNam University, is keen to engage in and expedite the academic exchange of information pertinent to teaching, research, and cross-cultural cooperation. They’ve already planned to send a small party to Solent during the early months of this summer”.
