Kelly, who is in her second year of studying BSc Applied Sports Science at Solent, has been selected alongside five of Britain’s best gymnasts.
She trains twice a day, five times a week to uphold her championship standard in the sport and is looking forward to competing: “This year has been incredible and I would have never have imagined I could have achieved what I have at the beginning of the year!”
This summer, Kelly won gold, silver and bronze medals at the World University Games 2015 in Gwangju, South Korea. The fact that she will be making a return to Glasgow in ten days’ time has topped off what has already been a highly successful year for the young athlete.
Since the trip to Korea and Kelly has been back in training to get herself ready for the World Championship trials. Over the past five weeks she has been at Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Newport and will train there for another week before the team fly out to Glasgow.
Artistic gymnast Kelly Simm is representing Team GB at the World Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow later this month.
Kelly says: “The University has been great in supporting me, they understand my training and how important it is, which is vital in helping me to manage both my gymnastic career and degree successfully.”
