Senior Lecturer
Faculty of Business, Law and Digital Technologies
Prins is a senior lecturer and acting course leader for computing in the Faculty of Business, Law and Digital Technologies. He joined Solent University in December 2012 as a member of the computing subject group.
Prins is a dissertation supervisor and a unit leader at undergraduate and postgraduate levels of study. He has a background in digital systems engineering and software engineering, and is a member of several professional bodies including the British Computer Society and Advance HE. He is certified by a number of professional organisations including AXELOS, BCS, ILM, ISTQB, Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco and the Python Institute.
Prins is an active researcher with a strong research focus in the areas of gamification, e-learning and intelligent and adaptive learning systems. He is passionate about education, technology and innovation and dedicates himself to developing solutions to enhance processes and the quality of life.
Before joining Solent University, Prins worked at Aston University where he managed the programming support office, taught on the computer science courses and worked as a software developer on a number of research-funded projects. In his current post, he has enjoyed leading the development and delivery of the computing, software engineering and the computing master's course provision at Solent University. He is a firm believer in sharing best practice. He has worked on a number of consultancy and research projects and is an external examiner with current posts at the University of Hertfordshire and the University of East London.
Prins has over ten years of professional teaching experience in higher education and has worked in a number of higher education institutions.
He is experienced in the full range of activities related to academic scholarship which include, but are not limited to, research informed teaching, undergraduate and postgraduate dissertation supervision, mentoring, curriculum design, course leadership and external examining. He is a strong advocate for sharing best practice.
