The new Dr. Martens store, which is now open on Southampton High Street, features exclusive artwork from local artist and Solent’s Director of School of Art, Design and Fashion, Professor Peter Lloyd.
Well known for his Mexican wrestler prints, Peter’s eye-catching work is a focal point of the new store, which also stocks an extensive assortment of Dr. Martens seasonal collections too.
On having his work commissioned, Peter says: “Working with such an iconic and precious brand as Dr Martens was a really exciting challenge. The project required me to incorporate elements of Southampton’s culture and identity, because Solent University is so involved and imbedded in the city and its communities this element of the task was relatively simple.
“There was a tight turnaround on this job, but with the encouraging, innovative and supportive advice of staff and students, combined with the cutting edge new technologies available in Solent, the mountain very quickly became a molehill. It’s a really exciting time to be at Solent and this project typifies the forward looking, can do attitude of this modern University, its students and its staff.”
