Starting his career as a telepromoter in British television, Mike began writing scripts and quickly progressed to directing series such as Sunday Break for ABC Television and World In Action for Granada.
After directing and producing Rumour (1968) and Suspect 1970) for Thames Television he was asked to write and direct Get Carter,  starring Michael Caine and often described as one of the great British gangster films of all time.
In addition to his cinematic success, Mike has also enjoyed critical acclaim directing films for television - including Squaring the Circle (1994) and The healer (1994) – as well as writing plays and novels.
The talk is open to all staff and students.
