What is #ProjectFresher
Are you a Southampton Solent University fresher? Do you like the sound of winning a brand new iPad mini? If so, you’ll want to be getting involved with #ProjectFresher, Solent TV’s latest crowdsourced documentary project.
Drawing inspiration from breakout crowdsourced hits like 2011’s Life in a Day, #ProjectFresher challenges this year’s freshers to capture highlights from their first few weeks at university using whatever device that they have at hand.
From Vine videos and selfies to Instagram and YouTube clips, these submission will be edited and sewn together to create a feature documentary that shows exactly what it’s like to be a fresher, and a young adult, in 2014.
Ben Sutton, director of the project, said: “Everyone’s fresher experience is exciting and unique, and trying to capture that is an exciting prospect. This documentary will give viewers a better understanding of not just what it is like to be a fresher, but also the age we live in.
“We’re on a technological revolution where everyone has access to some kind of recording equipment, whether it’s on their phones or iPads or tablets etc. Everyone and anyone can get involved in this. It’s not exclusive. This reflects exactly the ethos of Solent TV which says that anyone can get involved and get creative.”
The project launched on the first day of freshers’ fortnight, 17 September, and will finish on 6 October. A question, designed to prompt video responses from participants, will be posted on the Solent TV Facebook and Twitter accounts every day during this period. Participants are allowed to submit as many as five response to each daily question.
To enter, simply send your pictures and videos by tweet to @solentTV with the hashtag #ProjectFresher, or to the Solent TV Facebook page. You can also Instagram submissions to @solentTV, or send them directly to the Solent TV YouTube.
The iPad winner – the student who’s submission most effectively captures the spirit of freshers’ fortnight – will be announced via the Solent TV social media channels.
