February exhibition celebrates Southampton's 50 years of being a city

Alumnus Tomasz Dyl, a BA Marketing with Advertising Management graduate from 2012 will be celebrating 50 years of Southampton being a city by organising an exhibition at Southampton Solent University’s Conference Centre.

The exhibition, taking place between 3 and 28 February, will show pictures submitted by locals from across the city. The photos depict fond memories of Southampton and showcase iconic moments from the city. Judged by an independent panel, the photos cover a variety of categories including family, landscape, the city, nature and wildlife, sport and night.

Tomasz, Managing Director of Gottabe! Marketing agency said ‘as a local company, GottaBe! wanted to engage and give something back to the people of Southampton. Since the 50 year celebration is a special occasion and everyone has been part of it, we thought a photo exhibition fits nicely with the celebration – as not only the photographers get their photos shown to the wider community but others can see them and reflect on the events captured on the photos. Each one shows different memories of the city as through the exhibition, we will able to show the different events that took place throughout the last 50 years, celebrating the diverse nature of the city.’

On asking Tomasz what his favourite memory of Southampton was he said ‘I have only lived in Southampton for 11 years, however my best memory is my graduation – picking up results at Southampton Guildhall with fellow Solent students. Hard work paid off.’

The free exhibition will take place in the Sir James Matthew Building, Above Bar Street from 3-28 February 2015.
