With over 10,000 people expected to take part in the ABP Southampton Marathon, we’re excited to announce that we will once again be supporting next year's race which takes place on Sunday 5 May 2019.  As the official education partner, we’ll be providing a variety of opportunities for staff, students and alumni to get involved, including free entry to the race.

Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or looking to undertake your first run, it’s easy to secure your free space and help support Solent students. Simply complete the sign-up form, stating whether you’d like to run the 10K, half or the full marathon and we’ll send you details on how to secure your free space. All you have to do in return is to commit to raising at least £50 for our Local Student Bursary Scheme, which supports the next generation of students from our local community.

In return, we will support your fundraising with:

  • An online donation page through BT MyDonate, to encourage your friends and family to support you.
  • A free running t-shirt for the big day.
  • Special social media shout-outs.

Tere McGonagle-Daly, Pro Vice-Chancellor (External Relations) will be among those taking part and raising funds for students. Commenting on his support, Tere said: "Students are at the heart of everything we do here at Solent and I’m looking forward to taking part and helping to raise funds that will support our diverse student community. The ABP Southampton Marathon is a key event for the city and it’ll be great to join so many runners taking part."

The University is a charity registered with the Fundraising Regulator and the Local Student Bursary Scheme was launched at the alumni reunion and gala dinner in September.

If you have already signed up to the Marathon and would like to fundraise for our Local Student Bursary Scheme, or have any other questions, please email giving@solent.ac.uk.
