Tell us about your final major project
My project is based around my passion for music. I decided to choose seven American songs: Born in the USA, Bruce Springsteen; House of the Rising Sun, Traditional; Moanin' the Blues, Hank Williams; American Girl, Tom Petty; Crossroad Blues, Robert Johnson; Fortunate Son, Creedence Clearwater Revival; and a 'best of' book. I illustrated a book for each of these songs through image-making of the lyrics.Â
When I was hanging my show, I decided to hang pieces of work I had created throughout the past year of my course as it shows the process of how I work and the types of illustrations in my book. This also gave a feel of 'Americana' alongside my books.
What was the inspiration behind your project?
I was inspired by my passion for American music and my continued excitement for making new images in different disciplines.
What have you enjoyed most about your time at Solent?
The opportunity to be able to explore a whole range of disciplines within my image-making. The facilities and guidance from staff has been outstanding. I have been able to grow as a creative and I've built up a range of skills and a portfolio of work to take into the industry.
What's next for you?
I'm going to continue building my portfolio, and I'm considering doing a master's.
Do you have any advice for other students or potential students?
Have the passion to create, and create things that really excite you. And never be afraid to tackle something new.
