Celebrating the Shanghai Institute of Technology's 50th anniversary

This April, Southampton Solent University’s School of Art and Design visited the Shanghai Institute of Technology (SIT) to take part in their 50th anniversary celebrations. The School of Art and Design has cultivated a strong collaborative relationship with SIT over the last three years, paving the way for cultural exchanges and international projects which have benefited students from both institutions.

Peter Lloyd, head of the School of Art and Design here at Solent, ran workshops with the Chinese students during the visit. Peter said, “We were delighted to be invited to celebrate the Shanghai Institute of Technology’s achievements and to further enhance our long standing relationship with this important partner.”

While in Shanghai, the Solent envoy also visited the Museum District to attend SIT’s international design symposium. Solent University staff Jonny Hannah and Nick Long joined Peter to deliver lectures on Illustration and Graphic Design to the audience of international academics and industry professionals.

A variety of other speakers from all over the world also gave talks at the event, with topics ranging from effective graphical communication techniques to modern automobile design.

The accompanying exhibition, organised by Professor Wu Feifei, showcased the work of students and staff from the SIT’s Art and Design department. It encompassed a wide range of disciplines including packaging, information design, fashion, painting, sculpture, branding, product design, typography and illustration.
