Alumni success: Liam Saunders

Southampton Solent University student Liam Saunders discovered his passion for entrepreneurship soon after completing his BA (Hons) Business Management and Prince2 Foundation degree. Liam is now preparing to launch his own business, VIP IT, which will specialise in providing website design, digital marketing and IT support services to small businesses.

We recently spoke to Liam, who told us how he felt his time at university has already informed his career. He also highlighted the support that staff at Southampton Solent gave him (and continue to give him) as his business gets off the ground:

“My studies at Southampton Solent have nurtured my entrepreneurial ambitions. The strong support network of lecturers and fellow students has been a truly invaluable in terms of my personal and professional progression.

“Southampton Solent University is an incredible place. I have enjoyed every moment of my course, and this has influenced my decision to progress onto postgraduate study. The lecturers are incredibly supportive and inspiring – their collective experiences within industry translate into their teaching.

“During my time at Solent I have gained a great business grounding, and I feel truly prepared for what will come next. I recommend Solent without hesitation to anyone that is considering it.”

Liam’s achievements at Solent led to an interview with Theo Paphitis, which was conducted at the opening of his new Boux Avenue store.

“It was such an incredible opportunity to meet one of the UK’s leading business figures and gain some truly invaluable advice from him.”

Liam’s academic ambition hasn’t lessened with the creation of his own business – he plans to begin his MSc Project Management masters degree in September 2015.

“Being able to help businesses grow online through digital excellence is the highlight of my career. I love seeing the businesses that my company serves reach new online heights and benefit from the kudos associated with this.

“I feel that using my experience and expertise to help businesses establish a strong online presence is genuinely worthwhile, and I love the freedom that self-employment affords me – I can take decisions on a daily basis and operate with a great sense of autonomy.”
