Music Media Advice

Students and staff will once again be able to meet and network with leading figures from the music media industries during the third annual popular music journalism conference, Word Up! on Monday 2 November.

The conference brings together journalists and broadcasters from the BBC, Scuzz TV, The Guardian, Vice, DIY and The Quietus. It will feature a series of panels on crucial topics including the art of the interview and how to launch a new media platform.

It will be a great chance for students to get advice and a crucial insight into the industry from the perspective of those at the heart of it.

The conference takes place from 11.30am-4pm on Monday 2 November in the Solent Lecture Theatre, Sir James Matthews Building.

Lecturer, journalist and organiser of the event, Fiona Sturges, says: “Comprising award-winning writers, editors, publicists and broadcasters, this year’s line-up is bigger and better than ever, and reflects the many skills that journalists need to succeed in today’s industry.

“If anyone can provide sound advice for our students about getting their careers started, these hugely talented speakers can.”
