Maritime career opportunities discussed at major conference

Andy Hindley, Chief Operating Officer for Ben Ainslie’s America’s Cup team and key industry players from the marine and maritime industry will be showcasing the training, education and employment opportunities in this exciting sector at a careers conference hosted by Southampton Solent University.

The University has partnered with Hampshire County Council to inform and educate career advisors and STEM subject leaders about the wide range of career opportunities and education pathways that are available within the marine and maritime industries.

Southampton Solent University’s new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Graham Baldwin will officially open the conference, followed by keynote speakers from Associated British Ports, Ben Ainslie Racing, the British Marine Federation, Autonomous Surface Vehicles (ASV), the University’s maritime academy at Warsash and Fareham College and CEMAST.

Industry experts will be giving short presentations about apprenticeship opportunities; further and higher education provision; and why the South Coast is a driving force for growth and development in the industry.

Southampton Solent’s Dean of the Maritime and Technology Faculty, Professor John Chudley says, “Recognising the importance of the marine and maritime industries to the region, both Hampshire County Council and the University wanted to hold an event that showcased the lead role the area plays in this sector.

“Understanding the need for more information about the exciting marine and maritime career opportunities on offer, we are fortunate to have key industry leaders taking part,” he added.
