Students recently spent the day in the International Maritime Organisation (IMO)’s headquarters in London to celebrate World Maritime Day.

As part of this, they were invited to the diplomatic reception, where they met the IMO’s Secretary General, His Excellency Mr Kitack Lim.

“It was a once in a lifetime experience and I feel so lucky to have had this opportunity,” says Stersha Alleyne, a final year BSc (Hons) Maritime Business student.

The aim of the day was to celebrate the connection between ships, ports and people, and the IMO brought together leading maritime experts to discuss the challenges the maritime industry is facing in the near future.

Such issues include the facilitation of maritime transport, increasing efficiency, navigational safety, protection of the marine environment, and maritime security.
