The 2014 Media Tech Showcase

Each year, final year students from Southampton Solent University’s media technology courses come together to showcase their final year projects and network with employers from a variety of different entertainment industries.

The projects covered many different facets of media technology, from the usefulness of 4k resolution cameras in news broadcasting to the pitfalls of modern video compression techniques.

Speaking at the event, senior media technology lecturer Sean Lancastle told us why he thinks it is so important that students get a chance to showcase their work in this way:

“Representatives from right the way across the entertainment industry come in and visit the show today; we know that this leads to good employment opportunities and over the years students have actually secured jobs at this show. It almost acts like an interview for the students, but in some ways it’s rather more relaxed.

“We’re very proud of the students. They get the chance to show that they have learned a lot of the employability skills they will need to work in the entertainment industry.”
