Each year, Solent Productions recruits students to spend the summer working at some of the UK’s biggest festivals. This summer is no exception, and Solent Productions will soon be recruiting for work placements at 2015 festivals.
In the past, students on the production team have found themselves interviewing bands, filming performances and operating sound desks – all of which go a long way towards improving both their knowledge and their employability.
Micah Gates, who works within the Faculty of Creative Industries here at Solent, production managed the events. He said:
“We’ve been building up our industry links for years in this area and it’s really paying off, we are now doing an event almost every weekend over the summer and the work experience we can provide in these environments is invaluable.”
Glastonbury, Bliss Fields, Camp Bestival, Bestival and Boardmasters were all on the schedule last summer, and working on high profile events like these led to some great opportunities for the students involved. Over 30 different news stations used the students’ work, with some being aired to viewers as far afield as Korea and Australia.
Tom Herrington, a TV Production student here at Solent, directed at Camp Bestival and had 20 minutes of his work aired on Channel 4 and 4 Music. He said:
“I am beyond ecstatic to have had all my work paid off and shown to thousands of watchers, not just in the UK but across the world. This opportunity with Solent Productions has been priceless and something that is going to shine on my CV when I graduate.”
