Second year BA (Hons) Music Promotion student, Kari Clough recently took part in the Royal Albert Hall’s inaugural Young Producers scheme. Kari was part of a small team that produced two sold-out events in one weekend, taking place across several rooms within the legendary London venue.

Over 100 young people applied for the opportunity, with 20 progressing to a two-day process involving creative group tasks and a personal interview. Following her acceptance on to the programme, Kari worked with the other participants to create the ‘Collide’ event, combining music, fashion, special effects and street art. She took on several key event management roles during Collide, including scheduling, crew meetings and artist liaison.

Kari was one of just ten aspiring event producers selected for the programme, following a highly competitive recruitment phase. She explains that studying at Solent provided a great introduction to the scheme: “The course prepared me really well for the Young Producers scheme. Looking at contracts in the Live Music Industries module gave me a strong understanding of the many elements involved in producing a successful show. We also promoted our own event as part of the Events Management unit, so I was familiar with the production process.”

Senior lecturer, James Hannam said: “We are very proud of Kari’s achievements as part of this fantastic programme, working in partnership with one of the UK’s most prestigious venues. It’s great to know that the skills Kari has learned here at Solent helped to make the event a success.”
