Football studies degree celebrates ten successful years
Solent University's BA (Hons) Football studies degree is celebrating its tenth successful year. The degree, which launched in September 2002, has grown enormously over this time, capturing several significant milestones along the way. These include the development of the multi-million pound Test Park football centre, the launch of the world-class Lawrie McMenemy Centre for Football Research, the employment of additional specialist staff with a wealth of experience in the game at all levels, and the employment of increasing numbers of graduates.
Graduates from the football studies degree have gone into a range of roles in Premier League and Football League clubs. They are shaping football overseas, winning awards, setting up their own companies and helping to develop the already expansive football network in which Solent University and the LMCFR is situated. LMCFR Director, Dr Richard Elliott said of the degree's success: "The football studies degree has grown enormously in the last ten years in terms of numbers of students, facilities and research capability. Our students have gone on to do some amazing things, whether that be at grassroots level or at the pinnacle of the professional game. My colleagues and I look forward to the next ten years when we can build on the strong framework we have built to this point."
