Solent's new link: Perform Southampton
Students at Southampton Solent University will benefit from a new partnership agreement with Perform Southampton, widening their educational, research and career opportunities.
The memorandum of understanding is the start of a three-year agreement between the University and Spire Healthcare, which runs Perform Southampton, a £2m state-of-the-art physiotherapy, sports medicine and human performance centre in Millbrook.
The agreement opens up research opportunities and real-world learning experiences for students studying sports science degrees, as well as providing employment prospects for graduates.
Speaking about the agreement, Professor Stewart Bruce-Low from the University’s Faculty of Business, Sport and Enterprise, says: “This is a brand new initiative and will result in numerous student placements and some paid graduate appointments. It will also create possibilities for collaboration between university staff and Perform Southampton.”
Southampton Solent University graduate Cherish Boxall, now a Sport and Exercise Science Technician at Perform Southampton says: “I could not have asked for a better start to my professional career. Working here has allowed me to develop a variety of professional skills and provided support to continue my academic studies at a Master’s level, both paving the way for future opportunities.”
The University has been working closely with the sports medicine department of Spire Healthcare for the past two years, developing educational opportunities and providing expert advice on the design of its new Perform Southampton facility.
Tina Dunworth, Centre Manager at Perform Southampton says: “We’re really excited about this new venture with Solent University. I’m confident that our partnership will give students both career and development opportunities.”
