Solent achieves Social Enterprise Gold Mark
In a ceremony held on top of our striking Pod, Solent University was last week awarded the Social Enterprise Gold Mark, which celebrates best practice in governance, business ethics and financial transparency.
Lucy Findlay, Managing Director of Social Enterprise Mark CIC, says: “Solent University is so embedded in the local community, and we were impressed with how it helps people from traditionally HE-excluded groups to achieve previously unrealised potential; that’s really part of its unique selling point.”
As a result of achieving the award, the University will receive a tailored action plan to ensure it continues to improve.
Solent’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Graham Baldwin, adds: “We are proud Solent is one of six UK universities to hold the Social Enterprise Gold Mark, and its recognition of our commitment to creating positive social change.”
Fittingly, guests at the ceremony also saw a presentation from Solent University students who had been working on a project with Enactus, an organisation that works with students on social enterprise projects.Sprintit, a design sprint/project management app, is expected to be available for public use in the near future.
