Solent presented with award by Hampshire FA

Solent University is celebrating after being presented with an award in the Hampshire FA Grassroots Football Awards 2021, in recognition of the outstanding media support of the Hampshire FA men’s and women’s Senior Cup Finals in 2020/21.

Led by Technician Instructor, Matthew Hickling and Lecturer, David Reilly, students from a range of courses including BA (Hons) Television Production, BSc (Hons) Film and Television Production Technology (now BSc (Hons) Live Event Technology), BA (Hons) Sports Journalism and MA Sports Broadcast Journalism, have had the opportunity to provide media support at events in roles such as live streaming the matches to YouTube, journalism and presenting. 

Matthew Hickling said “We are delighted to receive this award from Hampshire FA. Streaming in this way has utilised Solent’s bespoke outside broadcast vehicle as well as custom fly-away systems rigged from scratch. Services we provided for the finals included professional ENG camera systems, commentary feeds, pitch-side interviews, VT and sponsor messages, sports graphics, slow-motion replay and multichannel audio mix.

These kinds of events really push the students to work to their best both technically and in terms of organisation and teamwork. The faculty now seeks to build on their live stream offering to make it even more professional, while also looking to strengthen ties with local sports clubs.”
