The first ever Kia Super League has been won by the Southern Vipers, after they beat Western Storm in the final on Sunday (21 August 2016).

We are one of the six hosts of the Southern Consortium for the Kia Super League, working closely with the Southern Vipers. Members include; Hampshire Country Cricket, Sussex Cricket Ltd, and Wiltshire Cricket Ltd.

Charlotte Edwards, captain of the Southern Vipers, led her team to victory, winning by seven wickets.

She told the BBC: "It's been a really special few months.

"It's been brilliant to be part of this group for the last three or four months, and watch them grow and develop as people and players.

"We'll all enjoy celebrating what was a brilliant win. You couldn't have made up my summer so far really, with getting knocked on the head and missing the Lancashire game.

"But everyone's shown a lot of faith in me and I've kept backing myself and I actually really enjoyed today. This is what I miss playing in, these sort of occasions."

Solent's Charlotte Taylor narrowly missed out on selection for the squad this year

Director of Solent Sport and women’s cricket coach, Phil Green, adds: “It has been an exciting time, being involved in the planning process and then seeing the Kia Super League come to life and providing a great spectacle for women’s cricket. We are proud to be part of the Southern Vipers, the inaugural champions.

“As one of the consortium members our contribution has been largely in a support role, providing facilities and accommodation for players, but the plan is that our involvement will expand to assist in areas such as strength and conditioning preparation and sports psychology through our High Performance Academy.

“On the playing front, the association with the Vipers will hopefully aid the University’s recruitment drive, and Solent’s women’s cricket captain Charlotte Taylor was close to selection for this year’s squad.”
