Matthew is a photographer and academic who comes from an editorial background, having worked on the picture desk for various national newspapers and magazines. His main area of academic research centres around participatory photography. He is currently in the process of researching a PhD thesis on how therapeutic photography can help improve the lives of people living with young-onset and early stage dementia. Matthew is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Further to Matthew’s experience working for national newspapers and magazines, he has also freelanced for clients including: The Sunday Telegraph, The Observer Life Magazine, Elle Magazine and Vogue. In the last 20 years Matthew has also had various solo and group exhibitions across the UK and Europe.
Matthew has over 20 years teaching experience in UK Higher Education and a proven track record in designing content, validating courses and managing curriculum across all levels of undergraduate and post-graduate provision. He taught at the University of Greenwich, the Bishopsgate Institute and the University of West London before joining Southampton Solent University in September 2016.
Matthew's interests include participatory photography and how it can help improve the lives people living with young-onset and early stage dementia.
