Carina Buckley

Role at Solent

Carina leads the learning design team at Solent University and is responsible for supporting the development and enhancement of learning and teaching practices to ensure an active, engaging, and inclusive learning environment for students. As such, Carina leads institutional direction in the Learning Design Framework, working closely with course teams to support their confidence and innovation in excellent learning and teaching. She is a Principal Fellow of Advance HE and has been at Solent since 2010, following a PhD in the Archaeology of Human Evolution.

Experience

As a learning developer, Carina has been actively involved in the Association for Learning Development in Higher Education since 2012, and led its steering group for six years, until 2021. Carina now serves as Treasurer, and acts as ALDinHE’s international link through her membership of the ICALLD Steering Group (the International Consortium of Academic Language and Learning Developers), where she works with colleagues from Canada, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. Carina convenes ALDinHE’s Leadership Community of Practice, supporting colleagues with the challenges and opportunities of leading and influencing without authority, and sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Learning Development in Higher Education. Together with Dr Alicja Syska at the University of Plymouth, Carina co-hosts the monthly Learning Development Project podcast.
