Ready to take your career to the next level? Solent’s project management master’s programme is a professionally tailored course aligned to the Association for Project Management’s Body of Knowledge. You will study different methodologies, techniques and processes of project management and the chance to gain professional qualifications such as Agile Project Management™ (Foundation and Practitioner level)*.

As well as helping to equip students with specialised project management skills, the course also encourages the development of leadership abilities, financial acumen and people management techniques. Students will gain a general understanding of governance, and develop management accounting skills.
Students will also examine the structures and processes necessary for any organisation to deliver a project effectively, explore the theories that have created advances in the fields of organisational behaviour, human resource management and leadership, and learn the Agile Project Management methodology, specifically the proven DSDM Atern framework.

Step 1 - PgCert Project Management modules
Project Management in Context
This module will help you to gain a general understanding of governance and settings. Topics include: project management; programme and portfolio management; infrastructure; knowledge management; life cycle; success factors and maturity; sponsorship environment; operations management.
Finance for Project Managers
This module will develop your accounting skills, with a focus on management accounting suitable for project managers. Topics include: budget and cost control; project funding; investment appraisal; provider selection and management; procurement; management accounting tools and techniques for performance measurement.
Step 2 - PGDiploma Project Management modules
Project Management Tools and Techniques
On this module you will examine the structures and processes necessary for any organisation to achieve an effective delivery of a project. Topics include: resources scheduling; time scheduling; information management; stakeholder management; benefits management; requirements management; solutions development; P3 assurance (quality); reviews (quality).
Developing Human Capabilities and Leadership Skills in Project Management
This module exposes you to the theories that have created advances in the fields of organisational behaviour (OB), human resource management (HRM) and leadership. Topics include: communication; conflict management; delegation; influencing; leadership; negotiation; teamwork; communities of practise; competence; ethics framework; learning and development; HRM.
Agile Project Management
Based on the proven fundamentals within the dynamic systems development method (DSDM) Atern, this module teaches you the agile project management methodology. Agile aims to address the needs of those working in organizations requiring standards, rigour and visibility around project management, while at the same time enabling flexibility, fast delivery and personnel empowerment.
Step 3 - MSc Project Management modules
You will identify your own research topic with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the different management research philosophies and approaches. It also explores the application of various management research methods and considers the organisation and management of research and ethical issues.
You will have the opportunity to undertake in-depth study of an issue or problem which is: (a) of particular interest to you and (b) is related to the overall aims and objectives of your project management course, with the potential to publish your findings.

The tuition fees for the 2021/22 academic year are:
- UK, EU (settled status) and Channel Island full-time fees: £8,700 per year
- International full-time fees: £14,300 per year

Undertaking the optional professional qualifications will require examination fees to be paid.

- AgilePM Practitioner: £250
- Project Management Qualification for the Association of Project Management: £400
Solent alumni could be eligible for up to a 50% reduction of tuition fees if returning to study a postgraduate course. The discount applied will be dependent on your undergraduate degree classification as follows:
Solent Alumni with a:
- First (1.1) will be offered a 50% discount to study at PG level
- 2.1 or 2.2 will be offered a 20% discount to study at PG level
The discount applied will be based on the most recently completed course.
If you are currently a student at Solent University and are continuing on without a break in your studies, your discount will be automatically applied on your return.

Bursaries, scholarships and financial support
Solent University offers a range of bursaries and scholarships that provide financial assistance or waive fees for tuition or accommodation. Each bursary or scholarship has specific eligibility criteria. Check out our bursaries and scholarships pages to find out more.
There is no charge to attend graduation, but you will be required to pay for the rental of your academic gown (approximately £45 per graduate, depending on your award). You may also wish to purchase official photography packages, which range in price from £15 to £200+. Graduation is not compulsory, so if you prefer to have your award sent to you, there is no cost. Extra guest tickets will go on sale after results publication and will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis. The cost per ticket is currently £15. Please note, we do not guarantee there will be any extra tickets available to purchase.

Note to all international students requiring a visa
All international applicants need to be aware that the English language requirements to attend Solent University, and the English language requirements to obtain a visa from the Home Office, may be different. This means that if you meet the Solent University language requirement to gain a place on the course, you may still have to meet additional requirements to be granted with a visa by the Home Office.

Your application checklist
Applications for postgraduate courses can be made at any time prior to the start of the course. However, we strongly recommend you apply at your earliest convenience.
Please ensure you upload the following mandatory documents with your application:
- Two academic references.
- Certified transcripts of qualifications, including English language proficiency if non-UK student.
- Copy of passport.
- Copy of current visa (if applicable).
- A personal statement.
- Employer sponsor form, where appropriate.
Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of the English language. The agreed minimum requirements for this course are:
- IELTS minimum 6.5 overall with minimum of 6.0 in writing and a minimum of 5.5 in reading, listening and speaking.
- TOEFL IBT 92 with a minimum of 22 in writing and a minimum of 19 in reading, listening and speaking
- Duolingo English Language Test - 110 overall with minimum of 90 in each component
Qualifications are checked before enrolment, and international students must bring their original certificates or certified copies when coming to study at the University.
