The course team consists of industry professionals and experienced academics who have backgrounds within the fashion industry. The team has a wealth of contacts and experience in branding, buying, merchandising, and marketing for major fashion brands, all of which enhances the student learning experience.
The University cannot guarantee any particular members of staff will teach specific aspects of the course in the future, but will endeavour to ensure the teaching team maintains their balance of experience and qualifications.
All fashion students have the opportunity to use the photography studios, IT suites, cameras, media equipment, and specialist rooms within Solent’s media academy. You’ll also have access to an extensive range of fashion, forecasting, marketing, retail and media publications within the library.
Solent also has its own student run store Re:So, where you can gain hands on experience of many aspects of the fashion business.

Metamorphosis introduces students to creative exploration through hands-on, practice-led workshops and foundational research skills. As your first university experience, this module builds confidence, community, and creative identity while allowing broad experimentation. You'll develop practical abilities, understand research-informed practice, and produce a portfolio demonstrating progression across diverse creative disciplines.
In this module you'll be introduced to the creative challenges of communicating ideas within contemporary art and design through a themed, practice-led project where you'll develop concepts through hands-on research, experimentation and visual exploration, mirroring real-world creative processes. By engaging with techniques such as mark-making, surface design, mood-boarding and contextual investigation, you'll build the foundational skills and confidence needed for specialist study.
In this module, you'll collaborate with students on other creative foundation years. You'll begin to explore the professional world of creative practice via an introduction to the soft and hard skills that cut across the creative industries, by investigating future pathways and opportunities, and by kickstarting a personal narrative about your own role in the creative industries sector.
As the final module on the foundation programme, this module showcases the diversity of creative skills represented across the creative foundation courses and gathers these skills together in the end-of-year showcase. You will use your specific skillset to contribute to this overall project - cross-disciplinary collaboration is encouraged. The showcase is your opportunity to share your project with key partners and celebrate your contributions with their fellow creative foundation students.
This foundational module provides a holistic view of the entire fashion industry to inform an understanding of how fashion businesses are organised. You'll be introduced to the fashion industry as a global ecosystem, showing how interconnected processes, people, and decisions shape the journey of a product from raw material to consumer - developing an understanding of the entire fashion value chain.
This module provides a deep, practical immersion into the principles of the circular economy, ensuring sustainability is a core technical competency. You'll gain a comprehensive understanding of the shift from linear to circular systems in the fashion industry, enabling you to critically engage with strategies that close the loop, reduce waste, design for longevity, and support the development of circular business models and processes.
This module introduces students to the core principles of marketing, public relations (PR), and social media strategy within the fashion and beauty sectors. You will examine the strategic role of marketing and critically evaluate how brands communicate, position themselves, and employ integrated tactics to engage and influence target audiences.
This module will give you an understanding of financial theories, practices, and formulas relevant to the fashion industry, and how these are used to aid decision-making. You'll also explore how consumer data and analytics are applied in buying, merchandising, and marketing contexts and will learn how data-driven insights support range planning, sales forecasting, and the creation of evidence-based strategies that drive business success.
This module examines the powerful role fashion plays in shaping cultural identity, social movements, and political discourse. You'll explore critical perspectives on globalisation, decolonising fashion, and media representation, ensuring you possess the critical thinking skills to lead with cultural awareness and social responsibility.
In this module you will explore digital strategy as a holistic framework for creating value across the customer journey. The module advances beyond omnichannel marketing to focus on the holistic customer experience, including user experience (UX) design, customer relationship management (CRM), and the secure management of customer data.
This module offers a specialised examination of modern fashion supply chains and production, focusing on the integration of technology to create efficient, transparent, and ethical systems. You will addresses the strategic aspects of sourcing that are fundamental to buying and explore the impact of AI in demand forecasting and blockchain for traceability.

This immersive, practice-led module challenges you to create a product range to a live brief from a partner company. You will develop a complete buying and merchandising plan for a new capsule collection, including market and trend analysis, range planning, and sourcing strategy, providing tangible evidence of their professional competencies.
This module examines the essential role of digital communities and data-informed strategy in contemporary media, communications, and content creation. Groups will take ownership of the social media channels for the course's brand, Carbon, developing targeted, evidence-based campaigns and marketing plans, using real-world data to track, iterate, and refine their approach.
Students on the placement pathway of the degree will be prepared in the second year for a year in industry in their third year, returning to complete their final year in year four.
This module provides you with the academic and practical knowledge and understanding to conceive, plan and manage a research-based project, paving the way for the Professional Realisation module. The module provides rigorous preparation for your final major project - evolving from a simple research proposal to identifying a significant industry problem and developing an innovative, research-informed concept and business case.
In this module you'll have the chance to pursue an area of fashion you want to explore in greater depth and breadth, and which relates to your own career direction and aspirations. Effective research will inform problem-solving and innovation to current fashion industry challenges.
In this module you will synthesise research and development to create innovative, viable and professional solutions to a contemporary business challenge. You'll engage in inquiry and ideation to critically connect research to opportunity, developing strategic concepts within your chosen industry context.

The module enables you to master the strategic and collaborative process of event management by designing and executing an engaging live (IRL) event. You'll learn to critically reflect on the four stages of event planning and the complexity of event roles, providing an in-depth analysis of the future viability of IRL events in their professional sector.
In this module you'll critically evaluate complex international business scenarios, integrate insights from previous learning, and apply strategic reasoning to develop evidence-based recommendations that demonstrate mastery of theory and practice within a global context. Through case studies, critical evaluation of real world scenarios, business models, and applied strategic models, you'll be equipped to design strategic recommendations that protect and advance a fashion organisation in a dynamic global market.

The fashion industry is a huge contributor to the UK economy. A recent UKFT report shows that the UK fashion and textiles industry is one of the largest sectors in the country, supporting 1.3 million jobs and contributing £62bn to the UK economy.
The fashion industry continues to evolve and offers huge potential for graduate employment both in the UK and globally. The UK industry supported 197,000 jobs for people under the age of 25 in 2021. The specialist skills taught on this degree can help graduates to find roles in areas such as marketing, PR, product buying and merchandising.
The team also maintain excellent links to industry, enabling students to benefit from live briefs and the opportunity to engage with industry professionals through guest lectures either in person or online. During the course, trips are also made to companies and industry linked exhibitions.

Starting salary: £22,000 to £25,000
A digital marketing officer or executive, with a few years' experience, could earn in the region of £22,000 to £28,000. Senior management roles could earn up to £48,000.
Starting salary (marketing assistant): £18,000 to £22,000
As a marketing executive, you could earn in the region of £20,000 to £30,000. Senior marketing executives (with around 5 years' experience) can earn between £30,000 and £45,000. Salaries will vary, depending on your location and industry.
Starting salary: £20,000 to £28,000
Social media managers can earn between £25,000 and £45,000. With experience, as a head of social media, you could earn £50,000 to in excess of £60,000. Salaries will vary, depending on location and industry.

Graduation costs
There is no charge to attend graduation, but you will be required to pay for the rental of your academic gown (approximately £45 per graduate, depending on your award). You may also wish to purchase official photography packages, which range in price from £15 to £200+. Graduation is not compulsory, so if you prefer to have your award sent to you, there is no cost. Extra guest tickets will go on sale after results publication and will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis. The cost per ticket is currently £20. Please note, we do not guarantee there will be any extra tickets available to purchase.

All international applicants need to be aware that the English language requirements to attend Solent University, and the English language requirements to obtain a visa from the Home Office, may be different. This means that if you meet the Solent University language requirement to gain a place on the course, you may still have to meet additional requirements to be granted with a visa by the Home Office.

Full-time
Any student applying for the first year of a full-time/sandwich undergraduate course must apply through UCAS (University and Colleges Admissions Service). This includes mature, overseas and EU students.
Nearly all schools and colleges offer their students the facility of applying electronically through the UCAS website using 'Apply'; it may also be used by those applying independently in the UK and overseas. This facility and all course information can be found on the UCAS website: www.ucas.com.
Your application should reach UCAS by 31 January if you hope to enter a course the following autumn. Early application is advised for the most popular subject areas. Late applications may be made until the end of June. The UCAS Code for the University is S30, code name SOLNT.

Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of the English language. The agreed minimum requirements for this course are:
IELTS 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each individual component
or equivalent.
Qualifications are checked before enrolment, and international students must bring their original certificates or certified copies when coming to study at the University.
