Graduate stories

Joshua's story

Joshua Jarrett - Buyer's Assistant at Urban Outfitters

What made you choose to study at Solent?
The reason I chose to study at Solent was because of how welcoming the open day was and the amount of passion the tutor's displayed during the open day presentations. The open day itself was well-organised and highlighted the most important information. I had the opportunity to visit the campus, the student accommodation and parts of the city centre. In addition, the presentation for the Fashion Management with Marketing course was engaging, informative and provided a real insight into what the course delivered. After attending and completing the open day, I knew that Solent was to be my first choice.

What was the best part of your course?
The best part of the Fashion Management with Marketing course is the several subject areas that it covers including marketing, buying, retail, public relations, finance and design, to name a few. The course truly covers several aspects of the industry - which is really useful in enabling students the opportunity to discover what subject areas they are most passionate about.

What do you do now and what do you find most enjoyable about your work?
I'm currently a Buyer's Assistant at Urban Outfitters. The aspect that I most enjoy about my work is being able to see the product journey - from a design to a product in-store. Within my role, I'm able to see a sketch 'come to life' and alter it where commercially necessary. In addition, I enjoy the number of creative people I work alongside on a daily basis.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about studying at Solent?
As an individual who was anxious about making the leap to London, I believe that Solent offered the perfect opportunity for me to develop my skills before beginning my career in the city. Whilst at Solent I've developed both personal and professional contacts that I cherish. I've made great contacts with tutors and industry professionals whilst meeting individuals that I now call my best friends.
