Dr Pengfei Zhang has been working in the maritime industry for over 20 years, previously working as a master mariner, maritime lawyer dually qualified in England and Wales and China, senior executive in a large shipping group. He has gained hands-on experience covering almost the full spectrum of maritime business, from ship building, to ship operations, and ship recycling. He practised as a maritime lawyer at Shanghai AllBrights Law offices before 2015, specialising in shipbuilding and financing, ship collision and SNP disputes.
With a PhD in international maritime studies, Pengfei has a distinguished track record in publications and conference speeches. He has authored/co-authored several books on maritime management and over 80 articles carried by prestigious journals, including (inter alia) Economic and Labour Relations Review, Industrial Relations Journal, Marine Policy, Journal of Navigation, international Economic Law.
With professional experience in the industry at a senior management level, Pengfei is well informed about the latest development of the maritime industry and well connected with a wide range of international organisations (IOs), non-government organisations (NGOs), and professional associations, such as the ILO, IMO, ITF, BIMCO, ISMA, ISF, NI and so on. He is a senior member of China-Europe Commercial Collaboration Association (CECCA), a supporting member of the London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA) and a member of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).
Pengfei's research interests include maritime safety and security, seafarers’ rights, maritime claims, international shipping law.
