I am an artist and lecturer based in London that completed a BA Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London (2001) and MA Fine Art Photography at the Royal College of Art (2004), UK.
My practice encompasses photography, video, collaborations and curation. My photographs are included in public collections such as Deutsche Bank, Hiscox and in numerous private collections. My work has been featured in publications such as Camera Austria, ArtReview, Hotshoe, Elephant, IMA, BJP, GUP, UYW, Photomonitor, Post-Photography: The Artist with a Camera by Robert Shore (Laurence King Publishing-2014) and Alternative Photographic Processes: Crafting Handmade Images by Brady Wilks (Focal Press-2015).
I am the recipient of Arts Council England Grants for the Arts Awards (2013 & 2014), the Photofusion Select Bursary Award (2013), selected as a series finalist for the Renaissance Photography Prize 2013, IV Daniela Chappard Biennale Photography Award (2007) and was nominated for the Paul Hamlyn Artist Award (2005).
Alongside my practice and teaching at Solent, I co-lead an annual Fine Art Summer School at Goldsmiths, University of London and am an external examiner on the FdA and BA Photography course at Barking & Dagenham College – University of East London.
Dafna has industry experience in teaching, curating, exhibiting, arts project management and presenting talks/lectures. In partnership, in 2008, she set up and continues to run a members’ colour and B&W darkroom in East London.
I was BA (hons) Photography and Digital Imaging course leader at Amersham & Wycombe College and have worked (and continue to work) on a freelance basis as a visiting artist and lecturer since 2005.
Some institutions I have taught at in the UK include Goldsmiths - University of London, Central Saint Martins, University of Hertfordshire, University of Portsmouth, University of West England, Derby University, University of East London, Canterbury Christ Church University and Haverford College in Philadelphia, USA.
I have conducted artist talks, professional practice talks, group and individual tutorials, crits, devised lectures/seminars and supervised essays on a wide range of subjects within fine art and photography. I have also been co-leading photography and fine art summer schools in collaboration with the Fine Art and Outreach Department at Goldsmiths, University of London on a freelance basis since 2008 on an ongoing basis. I also run workshops in a range of contexts that include galleries, festivals, schools and community centres.
My practice explores utopian models, notions of home, transnationality and looks at the precarious balance between autobiography and universality.
My current photographic work engages with historical and contemporary references, from Pictorialism and Modernism to current debates on the analogue/digital divide. My collaborative initiative, 'On Landscape Project', seeks to examine, question and engage with traditional representations of landscape and the politics of space through a series of exhibitions, events and dedicated website.

'Constructed Landscapes' consists of staged landscapes made of collaged and montaged colour negatives shot across different locations. Initially taken as mere keepsakes, landscapes are merged and transformed through slicing and splicing. The resulting photographs are a conflation: combining the ‘real’ and the imaginary. This conflation transforms a specific place - initially loaded with personal meaning and political connotations - into a space of greater universality. 'Constructed Landscapes' creates a space that defies specificity and refers to the transient. Blurring space, place, memory and time the work alludes to idealised and utopian spaces.
In dialogue with the history of photography, Constructed Landscapes references Pictorialist tendencies of combination printing as well as Modernist experiments with the materiality of film. Whilst distinctly holding historical references, the work engages with contemporary discourses on manipulation, the analogue/digital divide and the effects these have on photography’s status and verisimilitude. 'On Landscape Project', an initiative set up in collaboration with artists Minna Kantonen and Emma Wieslander, consists of a touring programme of exhibitions and events dealing with representations of landscape. The first exhibition by On Landscape Project was generously funded by the Arts Council of England and took place throughout March 2014 at Yinka Shonibare’s Guest Projects, London.
The show included work by Minna Kantonen, Emma Wieslander, Dafna Talmor, invited artist Minna Pöllänen and selected book artists. The second exhibition by 'On Landscape Project' took place at Matèria Gallery, Rome in the spring of 2015. The show included work by Minna Kantonen, Emma Wieslander, Dafna Talmor, invited artist Marco Strappato and selected book artists. An edited version of On Landscape #2 has been included in Castelnuovo Fotografia Festival 2015 and On Landscape #3 is scheduled to take place in June 2016 at Lower Hewood Farm, UK. A dedicated website that contains documentation of the exhibitions and events has been produced to complement the touring programme.
