Biography

Catherine completed her PhD at the University of Greenwich in 2019, with her research exploring homophobia and LGBT+ inclusion in university-based sport.

She is the course leader for the BA (Hons) Sport Coaching and Physical Education (Top-Up) degree, alongside teaching on BA (Hons) Physical Education and BA (Hons) Sport Coaching and Sport Development.

Industry experience

Catherine has coaching experience in a number of sports, including Taekwondo, gymnastics and athletics. She holds a range of coaching qualifications.

Teaching experience

While completing her PhD, Catherine was a professor at Syracuse University London and Foundation for International Education, teaching US students studying abroad in London. She was also a visiting lecturer at York St John University. Prior to joining Solent University in 2018, Catherine was a senior lecturer in sport at Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln.

Research interests

Catherine’s research interests lie in the areas of combat sports and issues surrounding gender/sexuality.

Work in progress

Catherine is currently publishing in the area of transgender inclusion in sport.

Awards

Catherine has been awarded Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2019), the Norbert Elias Prize (2013), and the Ron and Betty Smith Sport Research Prize (2012).
