Dr Francesca Gwynne BSC (Hons), PhD

Francesca is the course leader for BSC (Hons) Applied Sport Science. She lectures in sport psychology and sport science. Francesca began teaching at Solent in 2013.

She completed her PhD, titled Social Support in Performance Contexts at the University of Exeter.

Industry experience

Francesca has worked with a variety of athletes, teams and organisations providing psychological support for university athletes and many local athletes and teams. She has worked with the British Rowing Association, leading several workshops for their youth development squad.

Francesca has also worked closely with the Hampshire Talented Athlete Scheme providing one-to-one support, as well as workshops for athlete, coaches and parents. She provides psychological training and support to Solent's High Performance Athletes.

Research interests

Francesca's research interests are around improving performance and wellbeing in sport.

Teaching interests

Francesca teaches on the following units: Introduction to Sport Psychology, Applied Techniques in Sport Psychology, Professional Practice in Sport Psychology, Introduction to Sport Science Support, Applied Techniques in Sport Science Support, Professional Practice in Sport Science Support.

Work in progress

Francesca is currently working on projects related to the use of reflective practice with under-16 field hockey players; and self esteem in football.
