Joe is an experienced industry professional turned academic. He began his career in investment banking, and later embarked on a six-year start-up journey where he co-founded a financial services online marketing company. As the technical co-founder he was responsible for implementing a custom marketing platform.
While Joe still actively consults and participates in industry focused projects, his primary areas of interest are teaching and research. He is at the beginning of his research career and is approaching the half way stage of a part-time PhD in Technology Enhanced Learning at Lancaster University.
Joe is focused on naturalistic technological interventions that can enhance collaborative knowledge construction. His teaching focus ranges across web technology units and research methods.
Before becoming an academic in 2015, Joe spent 10 years in industry. The first four were as a derivatives instructor for HSBC Investment Bank, and then six years as technical co-founder of Good Apple Media Ltd, a financial services marketing company. Joe still actively consults on external projects. For the last two years he has been lead consultant on a large charitable Merchant Navy project. He acts as lead developer and takes care of requirements gathering, through to implementation.
Joe is specifically interested in developing and testing web-based solutions that can support collaborative knowledge construction.
