Estates and Facilities

023 8201 3439 ext. 3439

Role at Solent

David was appointed in 2004 and is responsible for leading the Estates and Facilities team. The team manages all aspects of estate and property management including acquisition and disposals, capital development, operations and maintenance, facilities management, residential accommodation, health and safety, environment and sustainability, commercial activities (conferences and catering) and other supporting central services on behalf of the University, such as insurance and business continuity.

David worked for 13 years for the NHS in estate management roles before joining the HE sector in 1996.

His first management role was as a engineer at a large district general hospital in Yorkshire where he had responsibility for managing a direct labour team and assisting with commissioning of a nucleus design development which replaced much of the older facilities such as A&E, pharmacy and specialist services. He followed this with an eight year period in Lancashire where he was responsible for engineering services design for capital projects, as well as project managing a wide range of schemes at a large sub-regional acute hospital, and also at community care facilities and an ambulance trust.

David joined the University of Bath in 1996 with responsibility for operational estates management of a 200 acre research intensive campus. His role broadened at the university as he subsequently became assistant director, then deputy director. He also took on responsibility for a number of major projects including supporting an extensive capital development programme of around £80m in five years.
