Role at Solent

Sara provides leadership, management and direction to the development of the School of Business Law and Communications’ portfolio and works to ensure the delivery of high quality learning experiences for students on existing and new programmes of study. The School has a broad range of courses including business and management, marketing, journalism, law, criminology, finance and tourism. Courses range across undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and apprenticeships. 

Experience

Sara joined Southampton Solent University as a senior lecturer in 1997 and was appointed principal lecturer in 2002. She was then appointed principal lecturer for faculty enhancement in 2007 and a teaching and learning fellow in 2009. Sara has taught, led and managed a whole range of courses in the management domain.    

Sara is very focussed on the continual development of the teaching and learning provision and has been instrumental in developing and leading many cross -University educational development projects as well as founding Dialogue, the University's teaching and learning journal.  Sara is equally passionate about equipping graduates with the competencies and knowledge they need to be successful in their chosen career paths. Her research focusses on work experience and its impact on students perception of their own employability. 

Sara regularly  presents at a range of conferences and acts as a journal referee for both the Journal of Pedagogic Development and Higher Education, Skills and work-based Learning. Sara has held a wide range of external examiner positions and has extensive experience validating courses internally and externally across a range of disciplines, as well as due diligence work.
