This module introduces the different types of event work and routes to employment in the industry. Different sectors will be introduced and discussed, from global sport events, conferences, and music festivals, to charity fundraising, major civic events and weddings. You'll explore these sectors, gaining a greater awareness of where you may work in the future.
Events are a key aspect of the experience economy - the creation of memorable and meaningful customer experiences at events, exhibitions, conferences or festivals. Destinations, venues, companies, and brands host and manage events to enhance their brand image and financial success, or to act as a boost to the local economy or for social integration and enhancement. In this module you'll explore a variety of examples, helping you to understand the fundamental stages of conceptualisation, feasibility, evaluation, and legacy.
The events that stand out in the customer, visitor or team member’s mind are those that take numerous programming elements into consideration. In this module, you will explore how the best events are programmed and hosted and develop an understanding of how you can achieve memorable events for all the right reasons.
In this module you'll create a portfolio of audio and/or visual creative marketing outputs while learning the marketing and PR theory that underpins successful campaigns. Combining theory and practice, you'll build an effective marketing and PR campaign, including the development and creation of marketing materials such as video, posters, press releases and social media content.
Events offer many opportunities for enjoyment and fun, but they carry an element of risk that must be considered by managers. This module considers such risks, with a focus on prioritising the health, safety and wellbeing of attendees, providing you with the essential strategic, planning and managerial skills required to manage risk effectively.
In this module you'll learn how to analyse, evaluate and respond to current issues and trends in the event industries and broader changes in the cultural, economic and business environment. You will learn how to decipher information from various sources in relation to your preferred area of the event industries, and gain the confidence to form and present your own opinions about how those industries will develop in the future.
In a competitive landscape, events need to stand out and provide the end user with an experience that resonates on an emotional level. As a professional event manager, you need to understand project management, building (and working with) teams, working with different stakeholders, all while taking a creative approach. Events need to be designed to achieve objectives that are often complex, in a given time period that can feel highly pressured. In this module, you will gain an understanding of what experiences are, in addition to the creative process as it relates to events.
This module is designed in line with the requirements of project management professional bodies and explores areas of people, strategy, and processes, covering topics such as risk, funding, intercultural competencies, and successful project delivery. You'll understand how to balance stakeholder needs with event delivery, and you will have the opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge of event processes. Additionally, you'll focus on how to build high-functioning teams by considering the roles involved.
Between years two and three of your course, you'll be able to take a year out from studying to work within your chosen industry gaining valuable work experience. The course team and our careers service will help you with finding a placement.
This module guides you in creating a professional-standard project that synthesises learning from across your degree and demonstrates readiness for industry. Beginning with project scoping and concept development, you'll explore a specialist project of your choice. You'll then move into the creation and delivery of your chosen artifact, followed by reflection and evaluation to improve future practice. Emphasis is placed on creativity, problem-solving, and communication, ensuring your final submission is academically rigorous, professionally relevant, and aligned with your career aspirations.
In this module, you will draw on the learning you've gained through your degree and, guided by the teaching team, you'll demonstrate your critical analytical skills, your ability to work autonomously on a large individual project, and your ability to communicate your work in line with academic and/or professional expectations.
This module explores a range of audience development strategies, considering a wide range of sector approaches including weddings, conferences, sport and the creative industries. In addition to audience data analysis, market research, community-building and trend research, you'll also be equipped with the knowledge to secure funding for events throughout your career.
During your career, you may be offered the opportunity to work at an international event. You may also work with a multi-national company, or work towards developing a destination through the medium of events. In this module you'll explore working internationally, while discussing what goes into producing an international event. The module also considers the background to international events, whether driven by destination promotion or national-level brand positioning.
