This module will support you with the start of your making journey - settling you into the studio culture, investing in your creativity, encouraging you to engage intellectually with artistic practice and begin to better understand visual language. You will build your confidence through reflecting on your practice, and communicating your thoughts and ideas with peers and tutors.
In this module you'll receive one-to-one support so you can grow stronger as an artist. Through a combination of individual tutorials and your own independent enquiry, you'll continue to explore and define your own practice to come to a greater understanding of your own motivations and passion for making art. Your practice should be underpinned by research and you will need to develop a context for your work - how does it relate to other artists' works and to current debates surrounding fine art?
In this module you will develop relevant artistic approaches and experiment to gain insight into your practice to progress your own unique making methods and thinking. Through testing, experimentation, acquiring skills, and communicating with others, you'll continue to develop a sense of agency over your practice.
During this module you will continue to explore relevant art methods, approaches, and experiments to gain further insight into a variety of approaches in art practice, and you will establish your own unique approach, methods and thinking. Through testing, experimenting, or acquiring skills and communicating with others, you are expected to develop an increasing sense of agency over your practice.
This module builds upon what was achieved in in your first year and is intended to enable you to grow as an individual, to help facilitate the development of your practice and to assist you in gaining greater confidence and independence as an artist. Throughout the module you'll broaden your outlook and perspectives on the subject of fine art and establish a direction through an open minded and exploratory approach.
This module enables you to continue to deepen your understanding of your practice and gain increasing self awareness as an artist. You'll be supported to establish a direction as a maker and as a thinker through an open-minded and exploratory approach. The synthesis of ideas, methods of production and appropriate technical skills will be the focus of this module.
Challenging you to traverse self-imposed technical and conceptual boundaries, this module encourages you to draw inspiration from diverse sources, and make in new ways. Through theoretical discourse and hands-on exploration, you will engage with diverse mediums and approaches, cultivating adaptability and resilience.
This module brings together all your learning, knowledge and experience up to this point through delivery of a public event or exhibition in collaboration with your peers. Through self-motivation and a commitment to hard work and your own practice, you'll be given the space to celebrate who you are becoming as an artist and the opportunity to make this known in a public forum.
In this module you will further develop your practical and contextual knowledge through taught sessions, as well as your own independent research and making. This module is important because within it, you can define yourself as an artist, coming to know the core issues central to your individual practice and finding the wider framework in which your work belongs.
This module will challenge you to think in imaginative and highly creative ways about your artistic practice. You'll be inspired through working in the studios and workshop spaces alongside other artists and will be encouraged to engage in research that inspires your practice through an increasingly independent programme of enquiry, curiosity and problem-solving. This module helps you to be a reflective practitioner, growing inwardly, but also socially and ethically in order to confront the challenges of the world and be outward facing in terms of community, industry and the global environment.
Alongside your continuing practice, this module will help you to write about visual things. As digital media has expanded the discussion of art worldwide, the ability to write with clarity and originality has never been so necessary. There is no single ‘best’ way to write about art and this module offers you the opportunity to think creatively about art writing. You will write a short form statement and present high quality imagery for inclusion in the catalogue which will accompany your degree show.
This module is the culmination of your undergraduate study. You have developed your knowledge of contemporary art in terms of your practice, technique, and context, and you will be channelling your skills and thinking towards a set of final works for the conclusive assessment.
