Becoming an Artist in the World

This module is central to your learning experience because it helps you to go beyond the introspection of thinker/maker, towards the important step of sharing your work with an audience. You will develop the skills to successfully select, present and exhibit the work that you have made and to take responsibility for this process.

Being an Artist in the World

This module brings together all your learning up to this point through a public event or exhibition that is achieved through collaboration with your peers. Through self-motivation and a commitment to hard work and your own practice, this module celebrates who you are becoming as an artist and gives you the opportunity to make this known in a public forum.

Discursive Spaces

You will learn a series of theoretical tools to grasp the contexts in which contemporary artworks are produced and discussed. You will also learn how artists use and invent methods and strategies that make their production and reception of their works affective and effective.

Evolving Practice

This module is about building on what was achieved in Level 4 and is intended to enable you to grow as an individual, to help facilitate the development of your practice and to assist you in gaining more independence as an artist.

Exploding Practice

Challenging you to traverse self-imposed technical and conceptual boundaries, ‘exploding practice’ encourages you to draw inspiration from diverse sources, and make in new ways. Through theoretical discourse and hands-on exploration, you will engage with diverse mediums and approaches, cultivating adaptability and resilience.

Rebuilding Practice

To re-build your individual approach to making and thinking in response to the discoveries made during the previous Exploding Practice module where your practice was scrutinsed and dismantled. In this module you will establish what is key and important to you as a practitioner, and build a more solid, honed and informed approach.

Core modules

Achieving Practice

The module is a summation of your undergraduate study. You have developed your knowledge of contemporary art in terms of your practice, technique, and context, and you will be channeling your skills and thinking towards a set of final works for the conclusive assessment.

Thinking Through Writing

On this module you will learn to think through writing, to potentially deploy a range of approaches and to analyse, structure and effectively articulate or poetically communicate your ideas about your work.

Making a Statement

This module will help you to improve your ability to write about visual things. As digital media has expanded the discussion of art worldwide, the ability to write about contemporary art with clarity and originality has never been so necessary.

Consolidating Practice

To consolidate your individual approach to making and thinking in response to the discoveries made during the previous Rebuilding Practice module where your practice was reappraised and reconstructed. In this module you will finally establish what is important to you as a practitioner and what informs your practice, and increasingly consolidate and refine your approach.
