Our 20 years’ experience of delivering construction management training has helped us to develop a course that works for both employees and employers. Students train for a single day each week throughout the academic year, applying what they have learnt directly to their day-to-day work and continuing to be an asset in the workplace.

Inspiring, challenging and professionally accredited – our programme offers a varied curriculum based on the key themes of management, technology and professionalism. You’ll develop valuable skills and work closely with industry partners, experienced tutors and the latest in construction technology.

You’ll develop a full understanding of the economic considerations and the industry’s legal framework. Extensive industry involvement ensures you’ll have a strong working knowledge of the technology and management techniques being used in the sector today. To support this, you’ll undertake challenging live briefs to help develop your teamwork, project management, problem-solving, decision-making and negotiation skills.

The course content is regularly reviewed to meet industry and professional requirements, and covers emerging topics in the field of construction management to ensure your learning is right up to date.

Our accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Building and Chartered Association of Building Engineers demonstrates that the course meets strict standards set by the industry itself. It also gives you the chance to work towards additional professional qualifications alongside your ongoing degree studies.

As part of exciting new developments in this sector, this course is currently in development to be offered as an apprenticeship route

This course is an apprenticeship, which is a course that is a blend of study and work. All apprentices must be in employment.

Students study one day a week, working towards their degree while gaining experience within the industry.

This degree has been endorsed by and aligned with the CIOB educational framework, preparing you for a rewarding career in the fast-moving global construction industry. Graduates will leave the course with the key skills required to develop, manage and deliver modern construction projects. 

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for candidates who have already studied at HNC/D level (or equivalent) and are now looking to progress to a full degree. Candidates should already be working in a relevant area of the construction industry and have an ambition to take on more senior roles.

Tuition fees

The tuition fees for the 2020/21 academic year are:
UK, EU and Channel Island part-time fees: £6,167 per year
International part-time fees: Students from outside the EU are usually unable to obtain a visa for part-time study. Please visit our  visas and immigration page for more information.

Other costs

While most course costs are covered by your tuition fees, some essential resources and optional extras may need to be paid for separately. These additional costs are listed below. For advice on budgeting and managing your money, please contact

Compulsory costs

  • Two copies dissertation printing and binding - £50
  • Purchase of JCT contracts or similar contract document- £30

Students will also be required to have the following personal protective equipment for construction site visits:

  • Safety boots that conform to EN ISO 20345:2011.  S3 category - protective toecap and midsole and a water repellent upper (approximately £60*).
  • Construction hard hat that conforms to BS EN 397 (approximately £6*).
  • Builders working gloves suitable for general handling (approximately £3*).
  • High visibility vest with reflective tape on body and shoulders (approximately £4*).
  • Outdoor lens safety glasses that conforms to BS EN166.  Grade F impact lens and optical class 1.  (approximately £7*).

Bursaries and scholarships

Graduation costs

For graduates in 2020, there is no charge to attend graduation, but you will be required to pay for the rental of your academic gown (approximately £45 per graduate, depending on your award). You may also wish to purchase official photography packages, which range in price from £15 to £200+. Graduation is not compulsory, so if you prefer to have your award sent to you, there is no cost. Extra guest tickets will go on sale after results publication and will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis. The cost per ticket was £15 in 2019, but this fee is subject to change for future years. Please note, we do not guarantee there will be any extra tickets available to purchase.

Key entry requirements

The part-time route allows direct entry to year three of the full five-year part-time course. Applicants must hold a HNC in a relevant subject, or equivalent.

Attendance on campus is approximately one day per-week, 9am-5pm.

It is desirable for applying students to be employed within the construction industry. Students will need to have a supporting reference from an employer as part of their application.

English language requirements

Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of the English language. The agreed minimum requirements for this course are:

  • IELTS minimum 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each individual component
  • TOEFL IBT minimum 80 with a minimum of 19 in each individual component
  • or equivalent.

Qualifications are checked before enrolment, and international students must bring their original certificates or certified copies when coming to study at the University.

The University also offers a pre-sessional English programme for international students who wish to improve their level of English before starting a degree course.

The university cannot guarantee any particular members of staff will teach specific aspects of the course in the future, but will endeavour to ensure the teaching team maintains their balance of experience and qualifications.


Students will have full access to course specific facilities including modern construction laboratories, a dedicated drawing studio and a range of surveying equipment. Students also have the opportunity to work in the built environment studio. This modern studio space has been developed to give students access to an environment which mirrors the feel and atmosphere of a working professional studio. Access to essential industry software is provided for use by all construction students. The design studio also incorporates laser cutting and 3D printing facilities.

The course team are actively involved with industry through their research, positions within professional bodies or their prior work in the sector. This gives a breadth of experience for the course to draw on.

The course has nurtured very strong industry and professional body links. This is essential for keeping the course in touch with current industry trends.

We hold a database of over 250 local and national employers that collaborate with us. These employers offer a range of support including site visits, work placements and guest speakers. Employers are involved in the delivery and assessment of projects at all levels of the course.

The Chartered Institute of Building have set up a young professional section of the Institute called NOVUS. This is designed to encourage undergraduates, new graduates and young professionals to network and get more involved with the industry. We are proud to say that the first NOVUS group was set up here in Hampshire by an ex-graduate from the BSc (Hons) Construction Management programme.
